Protests at Macca's after 'Rick and Morty' sauce sells out

Police have been called to McDonald’s outlets in America after customers started protests when the fast food chain ran out of a limited edition dipping sauce.

Fans were thrilled when McDonald’s announced they would be releasing a Szechuan dipping sauce in conjunction with the popular TV show Rick and Morty.

However it appears that the joint severely underestimated just how in demand the product would be and after they ran out, fans started protests outside the restaurant, demanding they be supplied with the sauce.

A video posted online shows angry customers packed into a McDonald’s at San Jose shouting: ‘We want sauce, we wants sauce’.

Fans of Rick and Morty were swept into a frenzy when McDonald’s announced they would be selling the dipping sauce, which has long been out of production and is referenced in the cartoon show.

In fact, it's believed the sauce was only available in 1998 for a short time when Disney’s Mulan was being promoted.

But that didn’t stop the creator of the show referencing his favourite dipping sauce in the show, leading McDonald’s to bring it back for a limited time.

Customers are said to have queued for hours to get their hands on the highly sought after sauce, however they were devastated when they got to the top of the line and were told the sauce was all sold out.

That’s when things went downhill for some of the stores, who were forced to call police to try to disperse the crowds that had gathered outside.

According to Twitter user Ian Sikes, one McDonald’s store had over 1000 people queuing outside but they only had 70 sauces to give out.

“Angry crowd chants "We want sauce" as police force them back. 1000+ people camped out to get #szechuansauce but McDonalds had 70 sauces,” he wrote online.

The dipping sauces have already started to appear on Ebay with one person selling theirs for $600 a pop.
