She's an uber-confident supermodel who hit the jackpot in the genetic lottery, but even Robyn Lawley has problems picking out flattering swimwear.

In fact, the 26-year-old Sydney plus-size model got so sick of scouring stores in the search of the perfect bikini that she created her own range, Robyn Lawley Swimwear.

Here, she shares her top tips with Yahoo7 Lifestyle about choosing the most complimentary swimwear on the market.

Be open-minded
“You might have your mindset on a conservative, black one-piece but a colourful and contemporary style can be much more flattering,” Lawley says. She urges women to try out a variety of swimsuits in different cuts and colours before making a decision. “Don't be afraid to try designs you like but don't think will suit you as everything looks different on the hanger and you might be pleasantly surprised to find a new style that looks amazing,” she advises.

Take your time
Although most of us cringe at the thought of trying on swimwear, Robyn advises to take your time. “Don't go swimwear shopping in a rush or when you’re feeling emotional because those change-room lights can be really awful. Go on a day you are feeling great and take a really honest, lovely friend,” she says.

Don’t go too small
It’s crucial to get the size right –and definitely avoid getting your swimmers in a size too small. “There's nothing worse than having to wear an ill-fitting swimsuit,” she notes. “What I personally look for are swimsuits or bikinis that don't cut into my hips, thighs or back.”

Get the right support
If you have ample assets on top, string bikinis won’t work for you. Instead, go for swimwear with cup sizes and underwire, which will give you the support you need. “Always go for swimwear that adequately supports your cup size,” according to Robyn.

Go high-waisted
A high-waisted bikini bottom will also do wonders if you’re concerned about your tummy area. “I definitely prefer bikinis with a high-waist, Robyn says. “They are very flattering and happen to be very on-trend.”

Stock up
Once you’ve found a swimsuit or bikini that you find both comfortable and gives you confidence, Robyn says to get more than one. “When you find a style that you feel amazing in stock up, especially if it’s on sale,” she says. “So many times I find the most perfect fit for me and then I can never find it again or misplace it so if I can, I always buy two or three of anything I love.”
