Roxy Jacenko defends herself against 'OTT' birthday party critics

Over the weekend Roxy Jacenko celebrated her son Hunter’s fourth birthday and boy did she throw a party.

But as she shared adorable snaps of Hunty’s construction themed bash, the premiere event planner was faced with some serious criticism as people called the celebration “OTT” and “excessive”.

However the 37-year-old has defended her decision to splash out exclusively to Be, revealing there was a heartwarming reason why the family were going all out this year.

“Last year for Hunter was sad not to have his Dad around,” she said, referring to the fact her hubby of six-years Oliver Curtis missed their son’s previous birthday because he was serving time for fraud.

“And I know for Oli he felt very bad to let him down,” she continued. “So it was of course great to have Oli with us this year.”

Despite this, Roxy insists because event planning is “my game” she didn’t “see it as going all out”.

Fans had taken to social media to slam the PR maven for the extravagant party, that included luxury goodie bags for guests, a three-tiered cake and a grazing table for the adults.

Jeepers OTT slightly,” one Instagram user wrote, while another branded it “ridiculous”.

Shrugging off the haters she said “the world be a boring place” if everyone liked her style of parenting.

“You do what’s right for you, I’ll do what’s right for me and my family,” she said. “Everyone is different, if we weren’t the world would be a boring place! I am fine with it.”

“I work hard to ensure I can give everything I have to my children in experiences and opportunities, no-one’s opinions is going to change that,” she added, something we’re sure all mums can undoubtedly relate to.

But while some people were quick to criticise the mum-of-two, many thought Roxy did an “incredible” job.

“This is amazing @roxyjacenko the level of detail; I am in awe,” one user wrote.

“What a birthday to remember,” another said, while one declared the party “outta control but I bloody love it”.

The family also enjoyed a second event, a more intimate family gathering, this time with a dinosaur theme the following day.

Looks like Hunter definitely enjoyed having his dad around this year.
