Senator deletes tweet after revealing Meghan Markle broke this royal rule

She may have successfully swayed a dishwashing detergent company to change the sexist language they used in a TV ad and delivered a rapturous UN Women speech on equality, but now that she’s a royal, Meghan Markle traditionally will need to remain neutral on any political issues.

However, on the Duchess of Sussex’s recent trip to Ireland, it’s believed the 36-year-old broke this royal rule, by revealing that she’s pleased the Irish people voted ‘Yes’ in the recent abortion referendum.

In a tweet posted to Twitter, Senator Catherine Noone, who met the Duchess at a garden party at the British Embassy in Dublin, claimed Meghan was ‘pleased to see the result’.

“A pleasure to meet Prince Harry & the Duchess of Sussex at the British Ambassador’s Residence this evening,” Senator Noone started the tweet.

“The Duchess & I had a chat about the recent referendum result – she watched with interest & was pleased to see the result.”

The senator deleted the tweet not long after, following replies from her followers about the royal rule Meghan had broken.

“I clarified – it was a very benign chat, she expressed no political opinion. She was interested and charming,” Senator Noone later said.

“It was misleading so I deleted it.”

Traditionally, members of the royal family are supposed to refrain from showing any political views and are not allowed to vote.

It wasn’t the only royal rule Meghan broke on the night of the garden party, with the Duchess’ choice of dress coming under fire.

The former Suits actress went against royal protocol by wearing black for the occasion, a colour the Queen and Kate Middleton usually only wear for sombre affairs.

Just hours earlier, the Duchess appeared at the RAF centenary commemoration at Westminster Abbey with the rest of the royal family.

While she may have looked right at home outside the church, inside it was a different story, with the Duchess crossing her legs in a major royal blunder.

While it might not be a big deal for women to cross their legs usually, it’s actually seen as a breach of protocol for Duchess’.
