Serena Williams cries as she opens up about details of her life-threatening C-section
On the HBO docuseries “Being Serena,” Serena Williams revealed her life-threatening experience after delivering her baby, Alexis Olympia.
At first, things moved smoothly as her fiancé, Alexis Ohanian, captured the moment her baby was delivered via an unplanned C-section.
The mother and father were happy, welcoming their daughter into the world, until Williams’s health took a scary turn.

She said, “I’m like, ‘Listen, I need you to run a CAT scan with dye because I have a pulmonary embolism in my lungs. I know it; I’ve had this before. I know my body.’”
After multiple visits to the operating room and a blood clot in her leg, Williams was released from the hospital five days later.

Since the ordeal, she and her baby have recovered.
Williams looked back on the harrowing experience. “I was so healthy. My pregnancy was so easy. Like, I didn’t have any problems.
“But, unfortunately, once I had the C-section, everything from there was pretty much a nightmare.”
