A group of hotel guests were injured when their entire dining table and surrounding chairs collapsed into a sinkhole.
The freak accident happened at the Bojin Business Hotel in North China’s Hebei province, where six of patrons were sitting around the round table in the building’s ground-floor banquet hall.
Footage taken in the aftermath of the incident showed the stunned diners having to climb out of the hole, which suddenly opened up on the floor midway through their meal.
Three escaped uninjured while three others suffered minor scratches and bruising during the fall into the pit.
All six had to climb out of the sinkhole with the help of other patrons and hotel staff, who helped the injured to hotel.
Wuji county’s work safety administration are investigating the incident and said a burst pipe underground was the likely cause of the accident – which had washed away the topsoil under the flooring.
This then causes the sinkhole to appear when numerous people stood above the hollow section.
Officials are continuing to look into the incident, with the hotel expected to foot the hospital bill for its injured patrons.
