Six-month-old suffers horrific injuries after falling from a bed

A devastated mum has issued a warning to other parents, after her six-month-old son rolled off a bed and suffered horrific head injuries.

Paige Ferguson and her partner, Blake Linton, from Arkansas in the US, were at a friend’s house when their baby boy, Colton, fell asleep.

Like many parents would, they decided to place Colton in their friend’s bed, built up the sides around him with cushions and pillows and sat just outside the room so they could hear him.

However, Colton managed to fall off the bed, which his mum claims was just two feet from the floor, and they immediately noticed a big bump on his head.

While Colton was crying, smiling and ‘acting alert’, Paige brought him to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

“Because we are paranoid parents, we decided to get him evaluated,” Paige said in a Facebook post.

“We thought for sure they were going to say he hit his head, has a bump, and he will be fine.

“Not the case…He fractured his skull and bled half of his entire blood volume into his brain.”

Paige went on to say that Colton ‘may not live, may not walk or talk’ and warned other parents to always take a bump to the head seriously.

“This is a nightmare. I don’t want other parents going through this…I don’t want any kid to go through this. Please take any hit to the head seriously. I can’t say this enough,” she said.

“My heart is broken. Our child is laying in front of us yet we miss him so terribly. I need you to hear me…get your kids checked out. Please. The old tale of “if the bump is outward you’re safe.” is NOT true.”

Paige and her family are now trying to take Colton’s brain injuries one day at a time, with the tiny tot suffering epilepsy, cerebral palsy and cerebral atrophy.

“I kept thinking of what his little body was going through and that this was my fault,” Paige told Babble.

“I should have stayed home, I should have brought his Rock ‘N Play, I should have let him sleep in my arms.”

She went on to say that her partner, Blake, told her not to blame herself.

“I was crying, hugging Blake, and pleading with him to forgive me. He kept telling me it wasn’t my fault, but I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Such a small fall and he’s hurting so bad.”
