Snake catcher pulls python from school canteen

Staff and students at a Queensland primary school were horrified when an uninvited guest showed up at the canteen.

A six-foot carpet python had made itself right at home in the roof of Eumundi State School on the Sunshine Coast.

Happily, professional snake catcher Luke Huntley was able to come and retrieve the serpent so the kids could get on with their lunch.

"It was a fun one to catch," Luke posted to his Facebook page.

"I wanted to be as gentle as I possibly could. So no head grabbing. Just a lot of backward and forwarding. But eventually I got it down. No stress at all for the snake. It was such a chilled out snake so friendly and it thought I was a tree at one point!

Luke pointed out that the teachers had done the right thing in calling in a professional.

"The school did the right thing. They made sure there were no children anywhere near the area and called me straight away," he wrote.

"Snakes are not only in breeding mode but also looking for water. It's so dry and hot. So keep an eye out."
