Stan Walker makes music comeback after cancer battle

After a tough few months focusing on his health, singer Stan Walker is ready to make a solid return to his musical career.

The former Australian Idol winner has revealed he’ll be going on tour in his home country of New Zealand, months after recovering from surgery.

Earlier this year Stan had his stomach removed, due to a high risk of developing cancer due to a rare gene mutation.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Stan shared some details about his tour, and thanked his supporters for being patient.

“Finally after 5 years & a couple times postponed lol… AOTEAROA I am ‘finally’ touring the country (sic),” he wrote to his dedicated Kiwi fans.

“Ain’t nothing stopping me this time… I’m bringing my bro @jacksonowensnz on aswell as my beeeasty band…,” he continued, before adding, “Don’t miss out fam!!!Also a big thank you to all my loyal, PATIENT fans… I love & appreciate you all for sticking with me & riding with me through it all”. 


Stan will be taking his live shows to several locations across NZ, including Queenstown, Dunedin and Christchurch.

After releasing his EP titled Stan in May, this is the natural next step for the musician as he gets back on his feet.

He also released a documentary Stan Walker: The Fight of His Life, which detailed his health struggles, the stomach removal surgery and the aftermath of his recovery process.

Stan reportedly discovered he had inherited a rare cancer-causing mutation known as CDH1.

The mutation has reportedly caused the deaths of more than 25 members of his family.

He shot to fame nine years ago after winning the seventh and final season of Australian Idol.
