Stella McCartney releases limited edition 'Meghan' reception dress

Stella McCartney has been outspoken about how honoured she felt to be chosen to create Meghan Markle’s reception dress for the royal wedding.

Now the British designer is bestowing a similar honour onto other brides by making the Duchess of Sussex’s dress design available for purchase.

In celebration of the brand’s new Old Bond Street global flagship store in the UK, McCartney has re-created the already iconic dress as a part of her upcoming “Made With Love” collection.

However, there’s a catch: Access to the dresses will be limited, as only 46 of them — 23 in black and 23 in white — will be made, and those interested will have to score an invitation from McCartney herself to try them on.

By emailing a request for an appointment to 23oldbond.store@stellamccartney.com, potential customers will be one step closer to snagging one of the $4,600 replicas.

But it isn’t until McCartney provides a personal response to an email that an appointment is confirmed.

The exclusivity of the dress is a result of it having been specifically designed for the royal wedding, which is also why the replicas are being made with sustainable viscose while Meghan’s was made of silk. Still, the replica dresses are sure to make any bride feel like royalty on her big day.

“I knew when I was working on the dress with Meghan that it was beautiful,” McCartney told Vogue. “I knew it would be a dress that people would want, and, in that moment, you can think, ‘Nobody can have it!’, or you can share it.”

Earlier this week, McCartney told BBC News that she was “very proud” to have designed the halter-neck gown, adding that the duchess was very involved in the gown’s creation.

“You know, it was very much her dress,” she said. “And I felt very proud that she came to me for that part of the wedding, and that she got to reflect her in it.

“We worked together. When you come to a wedding, you don’t just just go, ‘Here, this is what you’re wearing.’ That person has to feel like a million dollars; they need to feel like they own it.”

Luckily for a select 46 brides, McCartney decided to share.
