Woman Loses Eye From Speck Of Glitter

A mother-of-two lost her eye in a freak accident, while doing arts and crafts with her daughters.

Erica Diaz, who operates her own business called NerdSwag, was cleaning up after the art project when a speck of glitter became lodged in her eye.

The jagged piece of glitter managed to cut into her cornea and became infected, which lead to Erica going blind.

After two unsuccessful cornea transplant surgeries and numerous antibiotics and injections, doctors were finally forced to remove the young woman's eye.

“There was a chance that [a] f*cking piece of glitter in my eye could actually kill me,” she wrote on her Imgur page.

“I beg you, PLEASE wear eye protection when dealing with glitter.”

Not only did Erica lose an eye, but the chemicals from the treatment caused damage to her hair, leaving her with no choice but to cut it all off.

The mother has been slumped with a hefty medical bill of $5,000 after her insurance company ruled that the surgery was “cosmetic preference” and wasn't actually necessary.

“It’s been a year, it’s still not right, I’m still struggling to pay for it or get the stupid insurance company to pay for it… . but while all of that is going on, I’m still happy and living life and doing my thing,” she said on Imgur.

Erica has set up a GoFundMe page to help her and her family pay their monthly bills as well as extra funds for medications and other necessities.

It's worth noting that the shimmer in beauty products is designed to be for used for the eye area, however craft glitter is deemed too dangerous.
