While there’s still no cure for the skin condition, the vaccine aims to stop the bacteria which leads to acne, meaning your skin will be spot free.

“Acne is caused, in part, by P. acnes bacteria that are with you your whole life — and we couldn’t create a vaccine for the bacteria because, in some ways, P. acnes are good for you,” Eric C. Huang, the project’s lead researcher told Allure.

“But we found an antibody to a toxic protein that P. acnes bacteria secrete on skin — the protein is associated with the inflammation that leads to acne.”

However before you rejoice over this miracle injection, there’s still a long way to go before it hits the market.

While it’s worked on skin biopsies doctors have tested, they still need to trial it out, which will take about two years.
