Inspired by the sharp sartorial sense of Princess Diana, London-based nail-art extraordinaire and Wah Nails founder Sharmadean Reid has teamed up with U.K. fashion label and retailer ASOS to develop a new 20-piece capsule wardrobe collection that reigns supreme, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
The newly launched line include suits, shirts, sweaters, dresses, jeans, skirt, outerwear, a scarf, shoes, and jewelry, which are all reminiscent of the demure style icon.
The idea for line, dubbed Sharmadean Reid x ASOS, came to Reid shortly after she became fascinated with a picture book of the royal’s “adventurous and playful” aesthetic, according to the site. Reid, who told WWD she is “actually from a fashion background, not a classic nail background,” was so impressed by Lady Di’s looks that she was moved to write an article for her WAH-zine (her brand’s digital magazine), titled “Princess Di Was Really Fly.”
But an essay was not enough, so Reid — a former consultant, stylist, and assistant to Diesel fashion director (and frequent Lady Gaga collaborator) Nicola Formichetti — turned to ASOS.
The company, she told WWD, had been asking her to consider a collaboration for a while, “but I only wanted to collaborate when I had a good idea. I was never going to make a collection just for the sake of it. I wanted to do something cool,” she said.
That “something cool” was taking Princess Diana’s truly elegant ’80s style and updating it into refreshingly modern, wearable clothing and accessories.
According to images published on WWD, these include a hot-pink “LPD” (little pink dress) in a nod to the bold hue frequently worn by the royal, a varsity-inspired sweatshirt and a two-piece, cable-knit sweater dress with varsity trim (when she wasn’t being glam, Di preferred to dress preppy), a classic oxford button-down blouse, and a little black dress featuring straps made of the princess’s accessory of choice: pearls.
According to Footwear News, the line will also include loafers with ankle straps made of pearls.
ASOS is just as stoked to have brought Reid’s brainchild to fruition.
“The Wah aesthetic speaks directly to our 20-something customer and Sharmadean is the ultimate female creative, we are of course excited to collaborate with her,” ASOS design director Vanessa Spence told WWD.
“With the majority of our collaborations we try and offer our customer something different from the brands usual product mix and this first clothing and accessory collection by ASOS x Wah does just that.”
According to WWD, the line also “nods to Reid’s West London friends.”
Pieces range in price from about $10 for earrings to $189 for a pantsuit (and, as we — and anyone watching the presidential campaign coverage — know, pantsuits are having a moment).
