Woman kicked out of pool for this one-piece

Unfortunately, many women are already self-conscious enough when they step out in a swimsuit. But what if someone were to approach you and say the perfectly normal one-piece you’re wearing is “inappropriate” and you need to “cover up”.

Well, that’s what happened to one young woman in the US, when she went down the swimming pool in her apartment complex - the one she pays to maintain every month.

A number of families live in the building, and the pool has one rule on the dress code that states, "duly appropriate attire must be worn at all times. No cut offs."

But that wasn’t the case for Tori Jenkins’ one-piece. Her fiancé Tyler Newman, shared an impassioned post on Facebook about her being asked to asked to cover up or leave, and makes an important point about rape culture.

“Today my fiancé was told that she is less important than how men feel around her. That Tori is less important than a man's urges to be sexual towards her,” he writes.

“She was told that her body, because it's built more curvy than others is ‘too inappropriate’ for children to be around. She was told ‘there are a lot of teenage boys in this complex, and you don't need to excite them’.”

According to the post, the building's leasing consultant told Tori she was wearing a "thong bathing suit", and that there had been complaints made about her attire.

To prove his point to the contrary, Tyler shared photos of the swimsuit his fiancé was wearing, and it’s very clear that it isn’t a thong. He says, “The woman told Tori that a ‘normal bathing suit covers your entire butt’”.

“I've never seen my fiancé embarrassed to the point where she can't even look her best friends in the face. I've never seen her cry like she did in our apartment today. Never seen her want to be isolated like that,” he goes on.

“All because some ignorant assholes think they can police the size and shape of her body. I've never seen a woman so disrespected.

“MY POINT: My fiancé being told she should cover up on a (32) degree day in our own apartment pool because she will "excite teenage boys" is bullshit. I will not stand for this. My fiancé should be able to wear a bathing suit without being sexualized and demeaned. She shouldn't feel violated.”

Thank you Tyler, we agree. And hope Tori will continue to wear whatever she likes.

Sadly, since Tyler went public with his Facebook post, people have taken the opportunity to write nasty and body-shaming comments below it. There were also many kind and supportive words sent the couple’s way as well.
