The damaging 'sexy' trend to watch out for this summer

It’s the barely-there bikini trend that has left parents horrified.

Leaving little to the imagination, G-string, Brazilian and high-cut bikini bottoms have grown in popularity thanks to celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid showing off their pert derrières all over social media.

Worryingly, girls barely into their teenage years are following the trend trying to emulate their stars.

But psychologist Michael Carr Gregg told the Courier-Mail the trend is “dreadful” for young women’s body confidence.

According to Michael, the skimpy style sends the message that you “have to be hot and sexy” to wear something like this.

“And it adds to the objectification of women,” he says.

But swimwear designers everywhere are jumping on the trend, such as new swimwear label Reina Olga which says on its Instagram account: "Because no bikini is ever too small and no tooshie is ever too big."

Bondi Bather designer Kerry Cusak said because curvy celebs are wearing them it’s actually sending a positive message.

“It gives younger girls the confidence to wear whatever style swimwear they want irrespective of shape or size,” she told the Courier-Mail.

The question is, how young though, is too young to be showing off the latest trend on the beach.
