Model loves posing in lingerie: ‘It makes me feel hot’

As lingerie advertising is being labelled ‘offensive’ around Australia, international plus-size model Ashley Alexiss reveals she actually loves posing in ‘sexy’ lingerie.

The body positive model has been announced as the newest ambassador for Lovehoney Lingerie and features in a campaign shoot for a new sexy Christmas line.

“In my opinion, lingerie gives a woman a special kind of confidence as it accentuates everything you need it to and allows you to be able to look at yourself in the mirror and think ‘Damn, I’m hot,” Ashley tells Be.

“Every single piece just made me feel so confident. It was great to finally wear something that fit my curves and accentuated them to really make me feel my sexiest.”

Recently Australian label Honey Birdette sparked a petition calling for its latest campaign to be removed from shopping centres, with people labelling it “soft porn.” And in October it was even ordered to remove a campaign poster by Australia’s advertising watchdog.

And just this week Bras N Things was also in the firing line, with its latest shopfronts being labelled “the most disgusting and offensive yet” by Sydney Labor candidate Cindy Cagney.

However, Ashley is thrilled to have been chosen to star in this campaign for Lovehoney. The Boston-born beauty is a dedicated advocate for body positivity.

“Being a role model for them allows me to connect with even more women worldwide and spread my message that ‘Beauty is Not a Size’,” she tells us.

Standing at 5’4 and an AU size 14, Ashley has broken the stereotypical model mould and become a global success, modelling for a variety of brands over the past 7 years. But she admits she hasn’t always been so confident.

“It has taken me a very long time to get to where I am with my body confidence and it is not something that I just woke up with one morning,” she reveals.

“I believe much of my confidence comes from years of being criticised, which motivated me to embrace who I am. I know there's no perfect body, but my body is perfect for me, and that's enough.”

Ashley has also pioneered her own range of swimwear and apparel, aimed at curvier women to help them feel and look confident at the beach rather than shy away.

“One of my favourite quotes is ‘butterflies can't see their wings,’ which means that they can't see how truly beautiful they are, but everyone else can," she says.

“I think that people are like that too, and if women realised just how beautiful they looked from someone else's point of view, struggling with body confidence wouldn't be a thing.”
