Ivanka Trump’s ‘weird’ $3,550 floral dress

Ivanka Trump was in India this week to highlight the importance of women in global business and yet all everyone seemed interested in was her outfit.

The first daughter was co-hosting the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad, India, alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

She arrived in the technology epicentre, where she was greeted by a number of officials from the host country.

But the senior presidential adviser couldn’t escape fashion criticism during her official meeting with the PM and the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

Ivanka opted for a multi-coloured jacquard midi dress by Erdem, decorated with pink and yellow flowers.

The pleated dress, which retails for $3,550, wasn’t seen as part of the designer’s usually sophisticated sense of style, but instead was questioned for being perceived as “gaudy.”

Both India Today and Swirlster by NDTV panned Trump’s second look, with the support of Twitter users, who also expressed their disappointment.

Some even likened it to a ‘bedsheet’.

It didn’t go unnoticed that Ivanka opted out of wearing the clothing of an Indian designer, as the Duchess of Cambridge and former first lady Michelle Obama had done during their visits to the country.

However, Trump is expected to wear a traditional Indian outfit designed by Neeta Lulla later during her trip.
