The truth about that 50 Shades cucumber

No-one was quite sure what to think when it emerged last week that a cinema usher found a cucumber left behind after a screening of Fifty Shades Darker.

But now Aussie 17-year-old Taryn, has come forward to admit that she was the owner of the vege - but she wasn't up to what you think!

The 50 Shades cucumber was a hoax after all. Photo:

“My friends walked down to Woolworths to grab some snacks for the movie, saw the cucumbers for $2 each,” she explained to the KIIS FM radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O, adding that it was an opportunity they couldn’t miss.

“[We thought we're] going to take it, do whatever we like during the movie and then leave it there afterwards as a surprise,” she said.

Unclear about what “do whatever we like during the movie” meant, Taryn reassured listeners she and her mates “didn’t harm the cucumber in any way. We took good care of it.”

She then confessed her and her cheeky pals “just wanted to play a prank on the usher.” And boy did they ever!

The confession comes after movie usher Alex found the cucumber on the floor following a screening of the film at the Hayden Orpheum Cinema in Sydney.

Alex snapped a shot of himself picking up the grocery item last Monday, and promptly posted it to the company's Twitter page with the caption: "That awkward moment you find a cucumber in the cinema after Fifty Shades."

There was speculation that the photo was a publicity stunt, because let’s be real - who would pick it up?

"Yeah I don't think I'd be holding it,” one person tweeted back, with the cinema replying: “Because I'm a very very silly person!!”

Speaking on the Kyle & Jackie O show last week, Alex said he found the "organic dildo" in the back row of the cinema on 'Student Night' for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel.

"The light was still relatively dim, I couldn't really make out what it is, so I reach down to pick it up staring at it thinking 'what is that?'," Alex told the radio hosts.

He added that a colleague pointed it out, and it took a second before the "cogs started turning" in his brain and he remembered what movie had just been shown.

Kyle asked him if there were any signs the cucumber had been used for things it generally shouldn't, but Alex replied: "I don't want to incriminate anybody, so there was no obvious signs."

"Did you smell it at all?" Kyle pressed. "No I didn't smell it," Alex replied, "When you find something unsavoury like that, well potentially unsavoury, the first thing you usually do is post it to social media."

Alex must be jumping for joy after finding out the cucumber had come straight from the supermarket shelves.
