Jetstar destroys man's eclipse dream

A man who’d been waiting 20 years to witness a total solar eclipse had his dream dashed when Jetstar “forgot” to tell him his flight had been cancelled.

Jim Henry had booked a flight from Sydney to Cairns five months in advance so he could be in the Tropical North Queensland this morning to watch the sun be entirely blocked out by the moon, Australian publication the Daily Telegraph reports.

He’d booked a Jetstar flight that would have him arrive in Cairns at 9.40pm last night.

The plan was to head to his friend’s place in Palm Cove, and watch the eclipse from his pool this morning.

"But on Monday night about 9pm I got this email from Jetstar saying they had cancelled my flight and had rebooked me on Wednesday on flight JQ952, leaving Sydney at 6am and getting to Cairns about 8am," he told the Telegraph.

The two-minute full eclipse was seen from Cairns at 6.39am local time – and Henry was not there to see it.

The father of three says he’d never been more mad.

"It was something which has been on my bucket list for 20 years.

"I called them on Monday night when I got the email and said 'What's the point, I'll be in the air on your rescheduled flight when the eclipse is happening.

"I was apoplectic with rage and they offered no explanation and all they could say was if the rescheduling was unsuitable I'd get a refund."

An airline spokeswoman said the flight had been cancelled a week ago.

“We forgot to tell Mr Henry until Monday night,” she said.
