First class confessions

After 12 years loyal work for the “flying kangaroo”, first-class flight attendant Owen Beddall is ready to share all his secrets.

In his book Confessions of a Qantas Flight Attendant – True Tales and Gossip from the Galley, Beddall dishes on the glamorous world of flying.

He has travelled to 40 countries on six continents and met loads of celebrities along the way. From gossiping in the galley to staying in 5-star hotels and getting all the great products, Beddall reveals that at the end of the day it is essentially a very manual job.

Speaking to Sam and Kochie on Sunrise today, he comments that the most difficult person to deal with at the point end of the plane during his time was Grant Hackett. Apparently on Stillnox, Hackett came stumbling into the galley from First to Business Class and it required the assistance of all first class staff to get him into the bathroom.

The nicest people he met were Katy Perry and Lily Allen. Many hours were spent gossiping in the First Class cabins.

The saucy details don’t’ stop with the in-flight shenanigans (even though the mile-high club is very common.) The after-hours crew parties sometimes got quite wild and Beddall was even bitten by a snake on the beach in Phuket.

Owen broke his back during a training exercise at work, which is what bought his career in the air to an end.

The book is out today and Owen Beddall will be doing a book signing at The Bookshop Darlinghurst this Saturday at 1pm.
