Thousands of Sharks Gather Off Popular Beach

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, literally thousands of sharks are filmed lingering together off the Florida coast.

This video footage shows thousands of blacktip sharks off the beach in Palm Beach, Florida.

Florida Atlantic University biological sciences professor Stephen Kajiura spotted the sharks while filming his weekly aerial black tip shark migration surveys which covers the coastline from Miami Beach north to the Jupiter Inlet.

Blacktips, named by the black markings on the tips of their fins, are common in the warm coastal waters around South Carolina to Texas. The feed on fish, stingrays and squids, and have been known to follow fishing boats and feed on culled catches.

"It's so cool," he told according to CBS12. "There are literally tens of thousands of sharks a stone's throw away from our shoreline. You could throw a pebble and literally strike a shark. They are that close."
