The moment a Humpback whale almost breaches on a fishing boat

A father and son were peacefully fishing together on a small boat in British Columbia’s calm waters when a humpback whale breached out of nowhere right next to their boat.

Trevor Ryan and his dad were on a guided fishing tour when the giant mammal surfaced from beneath their boat off the coast of Langara Island.

In the incredible footage above, the whale leaps out of the water twice, creating a splash and showing off its huge tail before sinking back below the waves.

Hoping to film the moment they catch a big fish or playful sea lion swimming about, the men instead capture the breathtaking moment a majestic humpback surfaces less than a metre from their tiny boat.

“Holy!” one man yells as the creature breaches the first time.

“Did you get it?” the other man asks as the whale dips back down.

Luckily the seriously close whale encounter didn’t capsize the boat and the fishermen caught the show of a lifetime on camera for the world to see.
