During an episode of Inside Edition, an undercover reporter checked into numerous hotels in various areas of Manhattan and wrote the message "I Slept Here" on the bed sheets using a special UV paint.

The UV paint of course could not be seen by the naked eye, meaning the reporter would not be caught out if the maids were to change the bed sheets, like they're supposed to.

However, rather disturbingly, the next day the same reporter returned to the hotels under a different name and what they found will make you never want to check into a hotel again.

While the sheets in the room should have been changed for a supposed new guest, the UV light showed that none of them had been washed or removed and some of the pillowcases were also untouched from the night before.

The reporter stated how disgusting it was and claimed that the next time you stay in a hotel, you may want to bring your own sheets.

According to a statement read out on the program, the owners of one of the chosen hotels, the Marriott Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Times Square, said they will be taking this matter very seriously.

"The Marriott Corporation apologised and all of the hotels told us they take great pride in the high standards of cleanliness throughout their hotels, and that they take this issue very seriously, saying that they have taken immediate action to ensure this doesn't happen again."
