Travel website Expedia from come under fire after a woman claimed they cancelled her family holiday with an email that simply said "f*** you".

Californian teacher Cara Viramontes, claims she booked a holiday for herself, her husband and their eight-month-old baby on the website but it was cancelled without notice and she only realised when she went in to check her itinerary online.

According to Viramontes, after she booked her flights with Expedia she called up to complain about having to purchase flight insurance for her infant, even though he didn't need a plane ticket, and that's when the drama started.

After spending a while on the phone talking to a reportedly less than helpful customer service representative, she was sent a survey which asked her to give feedback.

Speaking to CBS LA, Viramontes said she "was honest,” in her reply.

“I said ‘do you know what, the lady wasn’t helpful – I asked to speak with the supervisor and she wouldn’t let me’," she said.

Just two days later she was allegedly sent the explicit email to her inbox, which simply said "f*** you" and told her that her whole trip was cancelled.

“I thought it was a joke,” she said.

“Everyone I show, their first reaction is they laugh they think it’s a joke. Nobody can believe that a company as credible as Expedia would ever do something like this.”

To add insult to injury, when she called up to question what had happened, Expedia reportedly told her that she would not be refunded the $600 she paid for flights and if she wanted to reschedule she would need to fork out another $200.

In a statement Expedia said they were taking the matter "very seriously and have opened up an investigation analyzing every click and action made by our customer service agents".

They also said they would rebook her flights, refund her the initial cost and give her a $500 voucher for the trouble.
