Rogue snake found on flight

The nightmarish scenario that was the subject of 2006 movie starring Samuel L. Jackson, Snakes On A Plane happened in real life this week on an Emirates flight.

The airline confirmed that a flight from Dubai to Oman had to be cancelled when crew members discovered the rogue reptile in the cargo hold.

“Emirates can confirm that flight EK0863 from Muscat to Dubai on 8 January 2017, was cancelled due to a detection of a snake in the cargo hold,” a spokesperson told Gulf News.

“Engineering and cleaning teams are working to clear the aircraft to re-enter service. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

Thankfully the creature was discovered before luggage – or passengers – were loaded onto the plane, avoiding the potentially horrific scenario of someone opening up their suitcase and finding a snake inside.

Of course this situation isn’t quite as terrifying as what happened on a domestic flight in Mexico last year.

Footage posted to social media showed a snake dropping into the cabin from above the overhead baggage compartment mid-flight, just like a scene from Snakes On A Plane.

Thankfully some brave passengers used a blanket and magazines to secure the snake until the plane was able to make a priority landing in Mexico City and professionals came on board to collect it.

Still, it’d almost be preferable to be on a plane with a snake than with this guy.
