The Canadian experiences every traveller should encounter

It is a nation of mixed cultures, mixed languages and mixed geography, which includes lush forests, waterfalls, snow and much more.

There are so many reasons a tourist should mark Canada as a 'must visit' country; here are just a few of the highlights.

Niagara Falls

This tourist hotspot is one of the most iconic Canadian attractions, cascading down the cliffs of Ontario near the US border. But there is also much more to Niagara Falls than just the water itself (as breathtaking as it is).

You can witness the majesty of the Falls from the numerous luxury hotels, or take a trip up the Skylon Tower Observation Deck to get the best view.

The Niagara Falls History Museum will also allow you to really get to know the attraction, and there are a host of things to do, including; Hershey Chocolate World, Greg Frewin Theatre, Waves Indoor Waterpark, Bird Kingdom and Mystery Maze—to name a few.

There is a host of eateries available as well, from the globally recognised Hard Rock Cafe to many fine dining options. The Falls even has its own brewing company.

Banff National Park and the Rocky Mountains

The Canadian Rockies cuts across the landscape from British Columbia to Alberta, with snow-peaked caps, alpine lakes and a host of nature’s wonders to explore.

It houses Mount Robson—which stands at almost four kilometres above sea level—and is a host of both the Yoho and Jasper National Parks.

But Banff National Park is also Canada's oldest of its kind, established in 1885 and covering 6641km2 .

For the more adventurous, the site also includes a rich tapestry of activities including; glacier-fed lakes, mountaineering, skiing, Tucson Bike Tours, icewalk tours, and whitewater rafting. There’s also the famous SunDog Tours, where you can soak up all the wildlife and views the Rockies have to offer.

Old Québec (Vieux-Québec)

Recognised by UNESCO, this world heritage treasure is a sight to behold. A visit to Old Québec is like stepping straight back in time, with the original fortifications and citadel still standing.

There are numerous religious monuments to explore in this hotspot, including; Notre-Dame-de-Québec Basilica-Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Jesuits Chapel, and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

This is a city steeped in history and tradition, and today stands fused with European-style dining and retail options overlooking the St. Lawrence River.

Calgary Stampede

There is plenty to experience in Calgary, like the Castle in the Rockies at Fairmont Banff Springs, and the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary.

But the biggest event on the calendar is the annual Calgary Stampede—the world’s richest tournament-style rodeo.

The 10-day event brings over one million visitors to the city every year, all wanting a piece of the rodeo action. The stage shows, concerts and unique event—like the Rangeland Derby, which features chuckwagons tearing around the track— also provide plenty of entertainment across the board.

These four features of Canada are just the tip of the iceberg, with the stately government buildings and annual boat festival at Victoria’s Inner Harbour on Vancouver Island are also notable features, and the olde time charm of Old Montreal another.
