Croatian island hopping: what’s the big deal?

You might’ve heard someone talk about how amazing Croatia is to experience...and that’s likely for good reason.

Croatia’s Adriatic coast sits on the Mediterranean—blessed with crystal-clear water that’s as warm as it is inviting. Best of all, there are a number of islands with towns and cities rich in history, dotting the coastline from end to end.

These islands also receive the notorious rays of pure European sun, backed by a collection of gorgeous sights, cultural beauties and plenty of spots to swim and sunbathe. And the best way to to see it all? On the water with Busabout.

Why explore by boat?

Jumping on a boat with as many friends as you can gather is our top pick for experiencing the turquoise beaches and abundant islands of Croatia.

Island hopping combines natural beauty with adventure, and a sense of freedom on the water. With more than 1200 islands, isles and inlets to wander through, there is plenty on offer.

For those that like to sit and observe, spotting mega-yachts sharing the waters is likely to become a daily experience. You’re also able to freely swim and float on the warm water, snorkel with enchanting sea life, and explore secluded beaches sporting tiny fresh seafood restaurants.

But with so many places to visit, how can you narrow down your itinerary? Here’s our favourites to fill up your bucket list on your next Busabout adventure...

Split
An old city full of Roman and Venetian architecture, Split famously houses Diocletian's Palace, an ancient site built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian for his retirement in 305 AD. But don’t think Split is all just history—the city is also the home to Ultra—the biggest EDM and house music festival in Europe. There’s plenty of eating options too, with seafood delights at the many restaurants on the buzzing esplanade, and in the town square.

For the thrill-seekers, don’t miss the 2.1 kilometres of ziplines set up high above the freshwater Cetina river at the Cetina Gorge. With great natural views, it’s just outside Split and is available as an extra on many tours.

Hvar
Hvar town is the party capital—a hotspot for nightlife. The bustling town is also where billionaires choose to dock, with some of the biggest and most expensive yachts you’ll ever see parked up. You’re likely to pass them on the water as well, so nothing to be jealous about as you stroll past on your way to find a drink.

Pro tip: make your way out on a free water taxi to explore the world-famous club—Carpe Diem.

Dubrovnik
The ‘Jewel of the Adriatic’ is a gorgeous spot where 1,940m of city walls shelter an old Baroque town set on the Adriatic’s blue shimmer. Trace the walls from the top and get a view of the pink sky at sunset, spot Game Of Thrones filming locations, or sunbathe and swim at swanky Banje beach.
