The hotel with the best views of Los Angeles

Perched on top of the Hollywood Hills The Jeremy Hotel West Hollywood has made its mark on the Sunset Strip.

Opening in August of this year we were some of the first to get to stay at the newest hotel in West Hollywood, which can be found on the corner of La Cienega Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard.

The newest kid on the block has 286 rooms, with 50 suites, including two penthouse suites, a pool, fitness centre, as well as a café and lobby bar.

Rocking up at the hotel you’ll definitely notice its imposing structure with both the east and west towers reaching into the LA sky.

Heading into the lobby to check in you get almost a Scandinavian feel to the whole place, with its concrete, natural light wood and angular finishes. But at the same time the plush rugs and sofas scattered around the reception area are super inviting.

Straight away you get the feeling they’ve tried to bring the outside in, the accents of ochre yellows and mossy greens, evoke the colours of the surrounding local hills and canyons.

It’s a huge but very inviting social space with floor-to-ceiling windows and the huge wood-carved reception desks are also a nice touch, definitely the focal point of the space.

After checking in we headed up to Level 4 in the West Tower which is where we found our room – lucky 459 – and the first thing that stands out are the huge windows and the view.

THAT VIEW!

An absolutely stunning view of basically the entire LA basin, from the skyline of downtown LA all the way to the ocean at Santa Monica – on a clear day.

It’s obvious the view is meant to be the hero, as the rest of the room is very simple.

Sticking to a modern and light colour palette it feels casual and airy.

But then there are a few sophisticated touches that remind you where you are, like the exposed concrete ceiling.

The room was spacious enough with a great bathroom and luxurious shower. And the bed was super comfortable, the perfect spot to sleep off a 14-hour flight.

Taking a walk around the hotel to the outside it’s hard to miss the huge art installation that spans between both towers of the hotel.

The seven-story Dream Catcher installation is not to be missed at night. The ever-changing LED lighting was designed by Hollywood lighting designer Walter Barry, who has worked on both television dramas and documentaries.

We definitely found ourselves just staring at it as it changed from blue, to green, to red, all in front of a stunning LA-at-night backdrop.

Given its position in one of the most iconic areas of Hollywood The Jeremy has also made sure to pay homage to some of the city’s notable culture and will feature partnerships and pop-ups that speak to the surrounding area.

The inaugural pop-up at the hotel while we were there was a celebrity Gibson Guitar lobby installation created in collaboration with local charity VH1 Save the Music.

The temporary installation featured custom designed Gibson Guitars created in collaboration with visual artists and musicians such as Miley Cyrus, Patti Smith, Slash, The Roots, and Wyclef Jean. Super cool.

There was really only one thing we were disappointed in during our stay and that had to do with the pool area.

While the pool deck on the fourth floor also offers that stunning view of LA and a beautiful spot for a morning swim, by afternoon the sun has mostly disappeared behind the building.

So while neighbouring hotel pools were just reaching maximum capacity, the pool deck at the Jeremy was empty, completely in the shade.

Also, due to a minor design flaw, which is being fixed, the balcony fence isn’t high enough for the pool area to be licensed for alcohol meaning there is no drinking on the pool deck.

Regardless The Jeremy is definitely worth a visit. It’s in the perfect location for all things Hollywood, surrounded by the history of the Sunset Strip, a nightlife fit for celebrities and the best view of LA.

It is important to note that over the course of the next year, The Jeremy will be actually be transformed into the 1 West Hollywood and will become the fourth property in the award-winning eco conscious luxury sustainable brand created by Starwood Capital.

When 1 West Hollywood opens it will join sister hotels in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Miami Beach. We look forward to checking back in then.
