Why Disney World has banned 'Do Not Disturb' signs from hotel rooms

Disney World in Florida has banned ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs from four of its hotels already, with others to possibly follow in the future.

If you’re staying at the Polynesian Village Resort, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower hotels you will no longer have the option of placing the sign on your door.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, guests will instead receive ‘Room Occupied’ signs, all part of a new ‘Right to Enter’ scheme which allows maintenance staff and housekeeping to go into the rooms.

While they have to knock before they enter they are now allowed to just walk in.

The change is believed to be a response to the Las Vegas shooting from the Mandalay Bay hotel last year.

The gunman Stephen Paddock killed 59 people and injured over 500 others shooting from his hotel room.

He had ammunition and firearms in his room but had a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door so nothing was discovered before the attack.

Disney told the Orlando Sentinel the decision was made for a number of reasons including safety, security and the guest experience, but declined to comment further.
