A wedding photographer’s take on Cuba

In Cuba, most weddings are civil ceremonies. This just-married couple prepare to run off in their purple car after being married at the Palacio de Matrimonios in Central Havana, where the ceremonies take 15 minutes.

A Cuban woman is shown at the Paseo del Prado in Havana. This promenade is the dividing line between Old Havana and Central Havana. This Cuban woman will let you take her photo and she hopes you'll tip her with soap, which, apparently, is quite a luxury.

An agler fishes along the Malecon, the oceanside road in Central Havana. Boats are scarce in Cuba to keep people from exiting the country, so most of the fishing is done from land.

People wait to make a sale in the market where lumber, sand and other building products are stored in this neighborhood of Havana called Vieja.

Havana's Calle Hamel is an alley that hosts art studios and galleries. Drummers and dancers celebrate different spirits from the Yoruba religion from Western Africa, on Sundays.

As the rain slowed, this beautiful young woman stopped me in the street to investigate my raincoat, apparently, an unknown piece of clothing in Cuba. I didn't give her my coat, but I did have a bag of clothing I was planning to donate so I gave it to her. Two days later she recognised me on the street and stopped to say thank you, and she was wearing the clothes I donated!

Card tables are set up in the street and the domino games seem to be neverending. Betting is on the downlow, but it does take place.
