9. Al Bustan Palace, Oman
Pool butlers are never far away at this gorgeous 50m infinity pool that overlooks the hotel’s private beach. They welcome each guest with an ice box complete with cooling water spray, scented cold towels, bottled water and a menu. 8. Park Hyatt, Tokyo
The outlook from this suave pool on the 47th floor is what sold it to us. Views of Toyko's skyscrapers as well as the impressive Mt Fuji are framed in wall-to-wall windows and the pyramid-shaped ceiling floods the pool with natural light.
7. Quincy Hotel, Singapore
Swimmers in this glass-enclosed pool cantilevered from the 12th floor are suspended high above the traffic and pedestrians on the street. Lighting effects make it radiant at night.
6. Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
You're quite literally swimming among the clouds at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands "skypark" pool. It's 200m above ground level and stretches across the unusual shape of the new hotel that dominates the marina skyscape.

5. InterContinental, Hong Kong
When you're relaxing in one of the hotel's three infinity spa pools on the third floor, you feel like you're almost swimming in Victoria Harbour. The pools are set at three different temperatures and have underwater music piped in.

4. Viceroy, Miami
Miami is known for its luxurious resorts – and equally lavish pools – but this one stands out. The extensive pool deck has three options for its guests – an 80-person hot tub, a wading pool and a main pool the size of a football field. It's 15 floors above street level and has impressive views of downtown Miami.

3. Hotel Caruso Belvedere, Italy
This one takes the cake for having the most jaw-dropping views from its pool. Situated at the highest point in the sun-drenched Amalfi Coast town of Ravello, bathers are enthralled by panoramic views of the mountains and ocean beyond.

2. Golden Nugget, Las Vegas
The $30 million heated pool complex called The Tank has a three-storey waterslide that speeds thrill-seeking guests through a huge shark aquarium. The giant fish tank is home to more than 300 creatures, including numerous shark species and stingrays. This one deserves two photos...
Everyone will love the Golden Nugget's slide...
And the winner is...
1. San Alfonso del Mar, Chile
This pool is so long you can put your yacht in it and go for a sail. It holds the Guinness World Record for the largest saltwater pool in the world – it's more than 1km long and holds 250 million litres of water. There are several man-made sand beaches along the way, and when it's a bit chillier, paddle down to the glass pyramid in the middle which houses a temperature-controlled beach.
