Unruly passenger causes flight diversion

A flight from England bound for Cuba has instead been forced to land in Bermuda after a passenger allegedly assaulted flight attendants and threatened to harm passengers.

The Daily Mail reported that a 25-year-old man was arrested at LF Wade International Airport when the Airbus A330 landed.

The plane was reportedly grounded for around three hours before continuing on to Cuba.

A spokesman for Bermuda’s Department of Airport Operations told the Daily Mail that an “unruly male passenger” was taken into custody by the Bermuda Police Service.

A police spokesman said it appeared the passenger was “creating a major commotion”.

“The 25-year-old man assaulted flight attendants and threatened to harm persons onboard the plane after he apparently consumed too much alcohol.

“The man was forcibly taken to the rear of the aircraft where he was restrained until the flight landed in Bermuda. He [was] then promptly arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was processed and detained,” the spokesman was quoted as saying.
