Video Games Increase Libido

I have never been a fan of video games. I always believed they turn people's brains into mush and create inactive, unhealthy children. Indeed, video games even create problems within relationships. When people come home from work and spend more time with their computer and video games than they do with their spouses, problems are bound to arise.

So you can imagine my surprise when a friend of mine told me that Wii (pronounced weē) is not only her kids' favorite pastime -- it also saved her marriage!

If you haven't heard about Wii yet, it is Nintendo's latest video game system. Wii is interactive: When people make movements in real life (such as the swing of a golf club or a baseball bat), the characters on the screen reflect these movements within the game. Thus, unlike other video games, Wii requires players to be physically active and engaged within the motions of the game.

This is one of the major benefits of Wii, and also one of the reasons why my friend credits these games with her marital bliss. When a couple engages in active, exciting activities (such as fighting it out on Wii Boxing or competing together in Wii Tennis) their brains pump their bodies with adrenaline and dopamine.

These chemicals create a sensation which is similar to the butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling you felt when you first met your partner. In other words, new and exciting activities can help recreate the excitement and novelty you felt when you first began dating. So, when you finish your round of Wii, you might be in the mood for another match with your partner... inside the bedroom!

Wii is also beneficial for relationships because it keeps couples moving. Poor physical health, including lack of exercise, negatively affects libido and sexual response. Good health is necessary for good sex. So spending an hour or two with your Wii might create more than just a slimmer waistline; it could also create more spice between you and your partner.

Of course, if video games aren't your thing, you can still reap the benefits of a little activity, and healthy competition, by holding a game night with your spouse. Break out classic games like Twister, Battleship, or Monopoly, and you will learn that fun is the most natural libido-enhancer of all.
