With news of their ‘engagement’ emerging overnight, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin have all their fans talking and are young Hollywood’s it-couple of the moment.

So how did this friendship-turned-romance between the singer and model become the sweet union it is today?

Footage (watch above) of the young celeb couple meeting for the first time back in 2009 has emerged, and this adorable encounter is where it all truly began.

The clip shows actor Stephen Baldwin introducing his daughter Hailey, then 13 years old, to a 15-year-old Justin.

“This is my daughter Hailey here,” Stephen said in the video. “We’ve been enjoying your music.”

A gracious Justin (we’re talking full side-swept fringe Biebs) shook both Stephen and Hailey’s hands.

“Nice to meet you,” a very shy Hailey said.

And there you have it. The first face-to-face encounter between two super awkward teens who have since gone on to break the internet this week with a couple of PDA moments and a massive rock on Hailey’s ring finger.

Since meeting for the first time almost a decade ago, Justin and Hailey have kept in touch, and their relationship has had its ups and downs.

“I’ve known him since I was so young — since I was like 13 — and we’ve just been good friends over the years,” Hailey told E! News in 2014.

“We have just stayed close and there’s nothing more to it than that.”

In 2015 Hailey joined Justin on his tour to Australia for a Hillsong conference, once again putting their relationship in the spotlight.

Following their split in 2016, Hailey said she didn’t let the talk around her personal life affect.

“I don’t think I ever did anything over the past year on purpose. It was just how my life was at the time and I wasn’t trying to hide anything,” she told Be later that year.

“I wasn’t ashamed of anything. I wasn’t ashamed of who I was hanging out with and spending my time with.”

“I just think going forward, personally I would like to be a little bit more under the radar,” she continued, explaining she vowed to be a bit more private.

“I’m not on Snapchat anymore, I decided to get rid of that. I don’t even keep Twitter on my phone now. The only thing I’m on is Instagram.

“I just think this next year for me is even more of a focus on work than this past year and focus on my family.”

Earlier this year Hailey confirmed the pair had become friends again, and opened up about how their initial friendship had once bloomed into a romance.

“I met him when I was really young and he was one of my best friends,” she told The Sunday Times in May.

“Everybody knows that at a certain point in time that turned into something else, but that just happens when you’re 18, 19.”

She then elaborated on what happened after the breakup.

“We didn’t speak for quite some time and there was a lot of weirdness that went on,” the model said.

Now, just a month after dating again, Justin has apparently popped the question to Hailey whilst holidaying in the Bahamas together, according to TMZ.

Hailey has also been spotted with large ring on her finger.

Now the waiting game begins till these two confirm the exciting news, most probably via social media.
