It’s no secret over the years royal brothers Prince William and Prince Harry have suffered through a lot – growing up in the public eye, dealing with their parents’ very public divorce and their mother Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997.

However, behind-closed-doors it couldn’t be further from the truth. William and Harry’s relationship with their father is still very “strained,” according to The Daily Beast.

“They are very different people and they just don’t get on. It’s as simple as that,” a source told the publication. “They rarely see each other outside of official business.”

One point of contention between Charles and his sons is when the pair discuss the emotional and psychological toll of their mother’s death had on them, in a bid to raise awareness about mental health.

The 69-year-old heir to the British throne reportedly “hates” the princes “emoting” their feelings so publicly.

Last year in a documentary to mark the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, William and Harry took part in the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.

The Duke of Sussex openly discussed how being forced to walk behind his mother’s coffin, in front of tens of thousands of onlookers affect him.

“My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,” Harry said in the documentary. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances.

“I don’t think it would happen today.”

Some of the tensions between Charles and his sons also reportedly comes down to jealousy.

Charles felt “usurped” by the Middleton family after his eldest son Prince William married Kate, Tom Bower claimed in his unauthorised royal biography Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles.

“Charles saw Kate and William as the new stars and feared he’d be in trouble,” the chief executive of Charles’ charity foundation in America, Robert Higdon, told the author.

However despite claims of their “strained” relations, when Meghan Markle’s father was not able to make to the royal wedding in May, Charles stepped in to walk her down the aisle.
