Woman bravely quits shaving her face after 15 years
It was the grooming habit Nova Galaxia felt she had to do for over a decade to fit in with society.
But the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) sufferer, whose condition left her with excess hair on her face and chest, has gone public about how she’s decided to ditch the razor – and won the internet’s heart in the process.
The 26-year-old appeared on UK chat show This Morning, explaining how she now has no problem embracing her beard.
“It was something that held me back for so long and something that I hated about myself,” she told This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
“Once I stopped it was like I was rebelling against that hate. And it felt amazing.”
While Nova is in a good place now, she admits that hasn’t always been the case.
After being diagnosed at the age of 15 after developing facial hair and seeing her periods stop, Nova became obsessed about shaving her beard and would use a razor every single day.
Suffering at the hands of bullies at school, Nova kept her condition a secret and would be left in a panic if she didn’t have a razor on hand.
The turning point came when Nova saw “drop-dead gorgeous” and “super confident” model Harnaam Kaur, who suffers from the same condition as her – and has publicly embraced her beard.
Nova also credits her partner of six years, Ash Byrd, for boosting her self-confidence and helping her accept herself for how she looks.
She decided to stop shaving last October, and judging by Twitter’s reaction after Nova’s appearance on This Morning, it was the best decision she could have made.
