Woman drives down motorway with her foot out the window

A delivery driver has revealed pictures of the moment a woman appeared to drive down a motorway with her foot hanging out of the window.

Steven Ellis was on his way from a drop-off in Newport, south east Wales, on Monday afternoon when he spotted the flexible driver apparently driving ‘at 40mph’ catching a tan on her right foot.

The stunned dad-of-four branded the driver of the VW Touran ‘stupid’ and feared for her safety and that of other drivers.

Images, taken while Steven’s start-stop VW Crafter was stationary, show the ‘extreme tanner’ on the A4810 approaching a roundabout heading onto the M4 towards Bristol apparently without a care in the world.

“I regularly see kids on mopeds with no helmets but I’ve never seen anything like this before, I was amazed by the stupidity of it,” Steven from Herefordshire, said.

“At first I thought maybe it was a mannequin or a false leg but it clearly wasn’t as I could see a tattoo on her ankle as she drove past me.

“It’s a newish car so it would have air conditioning, so she wouldn’t need to do that to cool down. Perhaps she was trying to catch a tan on her foot while driving?

The 44-year-old driver said the woman, who looked as though she was in her late 30s, was alone in the right-hand drive vehicle.

“My concern was for her safety and every other motorist on the road. Lucky there weren’t any pedestrians round there,” Steven said.

“Worst case scenario her foot could have come off if there was a serious accident.”
