Woman 'furious' after she pays $18 for DIY avo toast at Melbourne cafe

A woman has jokingly hit out at a Melbourne café after they charged her $18 for DIY avocado on toast.

Writer and broadcaster, Jess McGuire, took to her Instagram account after she was served up a very basic piece of bread, half an avocado, feta, salt and lime at The Kettle Black café, in South Melbourne.

“I’m not sure you guys will ever fully understand the level of annoyance I felt being handed this alleged ‘avocado toast with feta’ breakfast that cost $18 today,” she started her post.

“Pretty deconstructed, isn’t it?” I dryly remarked to the waitress, to which she smiled enthusiastically and nodded.”

Since posting the picture online, Jess’s experience has gone viral, with her tweet on the topic already being retweeted over 1,000 times.

Speaking to ABC Melbourne, Jess explained that her post about the breakfast was tongue in cheek but she looked at the menu and it never said it was a DIY meal.

‘Nothing was put together. So, the toast was on one section, there was what looked to be about 30g of feta in a tiny square on one corner, the kelp salt was put in a line and the avocado was still in its skin.”

She decided to take a photo of it and put a ‘jokey post’ up on Instagram and then reported it to her Twitter account.

“This happened to me five hours ago and I’m still furious,” she wrote as the caption.

Commenters were divided on whether or not they agreed with her frustrations.

“Why order it if you knew it was overpriced crap??,” one person said.

“Was this at The Kettle Black?! I went there when I was in Melbourne because people recommended it to me and the same thing happened and I was SO ANGRY”,” another commenter said.
