Woman gives birth in a fast food restaurant's bathroom

While on their way to San Antonio’s University Hospital around 10 p.m. on Tuesday to deliver their baby, Robert and Falon Griffin stopped at the local Chick-fil-A to meet up with a family friend who was going to take their daughters to spend the night.

By the time they arrived, Falon was in active labor and urgently needed to use the restroom.

The Texas couple were probably not expecting this location to be the place where they would welcome their third daughter.

The Chick-fil-A was closed, but the couple banged on the door and begged the staff to let Falon use the restroom. Thankfully, the kind workers let them in.

“I didn’t know I was going to have a baby in there! I was going to the restroom,” Falon told KSAT.

Robert wrote on his Facebook post, “I loaded the kids into our friends car, kissed them goodnight, and went in to find Maggie [his name for her in his Facebook post]. The manager said ‘she’s in the restroom and she’s screaming’. So there we were…..my wife and I in a tiny stall in the bathroom, and I could see the top of our little girls head crowning as maggie was straddling the toilet. I told Maggie, “’sweetie, we are gonna have to do this right here, right now.’”

“I’m in excruciating pain,” Maggie recalled to KSAT. “He’s not skilled. I don’t know what’s about to happen right now. I don’t know if she’s going to come out alive.”

She and her baby were considered high-risk through her pregnancy.

The manager of the restaurant dialed 911 as the delivery began. When the baby’s shoulders appeared, Robert realized that the cord was wrapped around her neck, twice. He told his wife to try to relax and “somehow” was able to unwrap the cord, he wrote in his Facebook post.

After “two more strong pushes,” Gracelyn Mae Violet Griffin entered the world. Robert used his shirt for a towel, and then the restaurant staff brought clean warm towels as the couple awaited the paramedics. Robert cut the cord while they were still in the bathroom.

Fifteen minutes later, paramedics arrived and took the mom and baby to the hospital, and they are both happy and healthy.

“Her birth certificate reads ‘Born in Chick-Fil-A’ and the hospital had me sign the birth certificate as the attending physician,” Robert wrote.

Months ago, the couple purchased a onesie that read “Little Nugget” from Chick-fil-A, not realizing how on point their little joke would be. The local operator of Chick-fil-A has offered Gracelyn a lifetime supply, and a job when she turns 14.
