Woman has 30 live maggots pulled from her ear

When it comes to insect fear factor levels, flies don’t tend to rank up there.

Muscled aside by their creepy cockroach and spider counterparts, we’re more likely to leave a fly buzzing around the house than we would other insects.

Well, a new video has surfaced that might change all that, after a woman was forced to have 30 live maggots removed after a fly laid eggs in her ear.

Reports claim a doctor removed 30 of the insects from a 76-year-old patients ear at Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University.

It’s believed the woman had suffered from an ear condition for decades that saw pus-like discharge coming out of her ear, however was unable to afford to travel to the hospital to get it seen to.

Last week, a fly entered her left ear, with the elderly woman complaining of pain, and later finding a maggot crawling out of her ear.

She was seen at a local clinic before being transferred to a bigger hospital for the maggot removal.

“The fly was most likely attracted to the putrid discharge in her ear canal. And then it laid eggs, which hatched into maggots,” the Daily Mail reports the woman’s doctor saying.
