Woman reveals hidden symptom of depression in touching post

A woman has taken to social media to highlight a relatively unknown symptom of depression that she, and millions of others, face every day.

In Australia, it’s estimated that 45 per cent of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime, according to Beyondblue.

In any one year, around 1 million Australian adults have depression, and over 2 million have anxiety and on average, around 1 in 6 women and 1 in 8 men will experience some level of depression.

While many associate depression with sadness, author Molly Backes explained that there is a lesser-known side to the daily struggle.

She calls it ‘The Impossible Task’.

Molly explained ‘The Impossible Task’ in a string of tweets, and her thread has now gone viral with over 27,000 likes and 12,000 retweets.

She says everyone’s impossible task can be different – things like going to the bank, doing the shopping, paying a bill. But the difficulty to complete the generally simple or easy tasks can leave many feeling like a failure.

She went on to highlight that regardless of what impossible task you are struggling with, “be gentle with yourself”.

“Impossible tasks are usually so dumb it’s embarrassing to ask for help, but the people who love you should be glad to lend a hand,” Molly writes.

Her post was flooded with responses, with many opening up to share their own ‘impossible tasks’ and thanking the author for highlighting the struggle.

Molly has one piece of advice to finish: let your friends and family help you.

“Remember that people want to help you because they love you,” she writes.
