Beauty salon ad slammed after asking for OCD applicants

An advert posted by a beauty salon online has been heavily criticised for calling on only OCD sufferers to apply.

Saks Hair and Beauty in Warrington, Cheshire, posted a job ad for a receptionist who is “extremely well organised (OCD)” on their Facebook page earlier this week.

But followers were outraged at the insensitive nature of the comment, telling the salon it was mental health disorder not a necessary work skill.

“Hey Saks…I think you need to get your HR department to check over your recruitment ads as this is not ok!” one user wrote. “OCD is not about being organised.”

Others added they were in disbelief at the remark, saying “OCD is a serious and debilitating condition” not a employment credential.

“OCD is insanely crippling at times,” another said, while one described the distasteful remark as “awful”.

The job advertisement has since been taken down, with a spokesperson for Saks — a franchise chain in the UK — apologising for “inadvertently” causing offence.

“We have been assured that the job advert was removed as soon as the franchisee became aware she had inadvertently caused offence,” they told The Daily Mail.

“As a company we would never wish to make light of a mental health condition and we sincerely apologise for any offence caused.”

OCD — which is short for obsessive compulsive disorder — is a mental health condition that affects 2% of Australians, according to SANE.
