Beyoncé and Jay Z's twins 'premature and jaundiced'

The world may have been impatiently waiting for Beyoncé to give birth to the twins, but apparently when they arrived last week it was a little earlier than expected.

According to claims published on TMZ earlier this week, the two new babies and their famous mum had to remain at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center hospital due to “minor issues”, and now the outlet has revealed what those issues are.

A source told TMZ that the babies, although long-awaited, were actually premature, with the outlet saying “we’re told Beyonce did not go to full-term”.

The same insider told the outlet that the two kidlets, thought to be a boy and a girl, are “under the lights”. This term refers to a treatment for “elevated levels of bilirubin” (which can lead to jaundice). The lights are aimed at lowering bilirubin readings.

News swirled over the weekend that Bey had given birth earlier in the week at an LA hospital, and on Monday the singer's father Mathew Knowles has confirmed the couple have double trouble on their hands.

Taking to Twitter, proud grandpa Mathew shared a message for his new grandbabies in a snap that read, "Happy Birthday to the twins! Love, Granddad" alongside the caption 'They're here !#beyonce #twins #jayz #happybirthday".

However not all fans were happy with the announcement from Beyoncé's dad, with one user commenting, "You should delete this and let Bey announce it."

Meanwhile gifts have been spotted arriving at the LA medical centre for the proud new parents, and florists were seen carrying in pink and blue balloons, seemingly confirming the genders of the new bubs.

The couple, who wed in 2008, are already parents to five-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, and almost broke the internet, literally, with their pregnancy announcement in February this year.

"We would like to share our love and happiness," Beyoncé wrote alongside an floral-themed photo of herself and her baby bump.

"We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. — The Carters."
