Bride 'seething' after best man stops wedding ceremony to propose to girlfriend
Your wedding day is meant to be one of the only times in your life when all eyes are on you and your other half as you commit to a lifetime of love together.
But one bride has been left ‘seething’ after her husband’s best man, John, completely hijacked their big day, by stopping the ceremony and proposing to his pregnant girlfriend, Jane while also revealing she was pregnant.
The furious woman wrote a letter to Slate’s Dear Prudie advice column asking what she should do and explained how she couldn’t ever hear her husband read his vows because John and Jane were sobbing in the background.
“Even the videographer cut to her frequently during the ceremony, and you can’t hear anything over the chatter,” the anonymous woman wrote in the letter.
As if that wasn’t enough to ruin somebody’s wedding day, John then got up to make a speech at the reception and made the whole thing about him and his new fiancée.
“When John gave his toast, he apologized for being caught up in the moment, and then proceeded to talk about he and Jane’s future with nary a mention of us,” the woman wrote.
The newlyweds were basically forgotten about on their wedding day, with guests flocking to congratulate John and Jane on their proposal.
“John even went out of his way to ask the band for a special dance for just him and Jane on the dance floor,” the woman continued.
“I’ve never been an attention hog, and I wouldn’t even have minded if he’d proposed after the ceremony, but weeks later I am still seething. I am so shocked and angry that I keep asking myself if this is real life.”
The woman explained that her husband hasn’t spoken to John since their wedding and has even joked about his best friend paying $40,000 for half of the wedding.
Agony aunt Prudie wrote back to the woman, agreeing that the best friend was totally selfish on the day and said that her husband needs to talk it out with John.
We don’t know about you, but we would find it pretty hard to forgive something like that.
