The little two-year-old suffered third-degree burns to more than 90 per cent of her body, and lost both feet, her hand and her right ear to amputation.

Three years later, in an unbelievable twist of fate, Sophie made national headlines again after being hit by a car near her home in Sydney's northern beaches. The five-year-old suffered a heart attack, a broken jaw and shoulder, numerous rib fractures, punctured lungs and a brain injury.

Sophie has had more than 100 operations since her first accident, and continues to undergo several major surgical procedures each year.

Now, the life of the 15-year-old is about to take a whole new turn for the best.

Sophie has been cast in the new Aussie flick Dance Academy, and she can't wait.

"I'm only an extra but I do get a close-up for a couple of seconds," Sophie told The Daily Edition.

"It was really cool and [filming] was a great day," she said.

The teenager, who spends most of her time training with the intention of representing Australia in the 2020 Paralympics for rowing, told the show she's always had a keen interest in acting.
