JJ Abrams holds moment of silence for Anton Yelchin at Star Trek Beyond premiere
Director JJ Abrams made a touching tribute to the late Anton Yelchin at the Star Trek Beyond US premiere.
“As wonderful as this is to be here with all of you and to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, there is something wrong tonight," the producer said. “There is something missing tonight. There is someone missing tonight."

The director then called for a moment of silence for the late actor, who played Chekov in the film. The actor died tragically in a freak accident just a month ago.
"Anton Yelchin should be here," JJ continued. "Anton's parents are here - Irina and Victor. We love their son, and if I could ask everyone to have a moment of silence for our dear friend Anton."
The 27-year-old's body was found wedged between his car and the gate of his home in Studio City, California.
Ed Winter, assistant chief coroner of the Los Angeles County coroner's office, confirmed to People magazine that the actor died of accidental "blunt traumatic asphyxia".

Zachary Quinto, who plays Commander Spock in the franchise, also took the moment to pay tribute to the Leonard Nimoy, who died earlier this year.
"I just want to take a moment to honour him, to acknowledge him, to celebrate him and to love him. We all carry him with us in our hearts tonight," he said.
Zachary also paid tribute to Anton during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
"I don’t even know how to talk about it," he said.
"We already knew this would be a bitter-sweet experience because of the loss of Leonard [Nimoy] last year, but this has just been absolutely devastating for all of us."
