Bachelorette Georgia Love opens up about mum's tragic cancer battle

She's hopefully set to meet the love of her life in The Bachelorette.

But Georgia Love has revealed that what should be the happiest time of her life has been marred by heartbreak, with her mum Belinda having been diagnosed with cancer.

“Mum’s beautiful. A huge inspiration in my life. And she’s actually going through chemo for pancreatic cancer at the moment,” Georgia tells WHO.

“That was a huge instigator for me to think I want to do this.

“Seeing how my dad has been with her just made me realise if something like ever happens to me, who would be my support?”

Georgia admits being away from her mum – who was diagnosed six months ago - while filming the show was hard, but she kept in constant contact for updates on her health.

And while her mum was happy for her to go on the program, her dad Chris had his reservations.

“Mum trusts me. [She was like;] ‘Yes, go for it, baby!’ Dad was more apprehensive. But I got him around – I told him it was his relationship with Mum that inspired me,” Georgia says.

And while the former reporter is keeping coy on her chosen boy, she says the experience definitely opened her eyes.

“I learnt straightaway that first impressions don’t mean nearly as much as I thought,” she says. “And that goes both ways.”

But Georgia, who was a super fan of the previous shows, adds her reasons for becoming the next Bachelorette are pure.

“I never would have put so much on the line in hopes of short-term fame on reality TV. I‘ve risked this to find somebody who will make me happy away from work,” the 28-year-old Tassie beauty says.

“And if I never get back into the media, if I’m happy with the person I’m with, then I’m OK with that. That’s why I made the sacrifice.”
