Karl Stefanovic talks Brangelina divorce amid own 'split'

It was bound to be an awkward day at the office for Karl Stefanovic, who was forced to report on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce this morning amid talks he and his wife are also headed for splits-ville.

The reporter was talking about the split on The Today Show when he proclaimed that marriage breakdowns are “no one’s business”.

“It is a big media story,” he says in the clip above. "You can obviously argue it's no one's business what's going on inside there.”

Stellar Magazine’s Editor-In-Chief Sarrah Le Marquand was on hand to offer an alternative perspective.

“They're high profile,” she adds. “It's a tough one. Really only the two of them will ever know, but you can't expect anything other than it to fold out in front of the media."

Karl, 42, has reportedly moved out of his family home as he and his wife Cassandra Thorburn try “to work their marriage out”.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Karl is staying in a $20 million Bondi home owned by his friend James Packer.

The report emerged as the TV host was noticeably absent from The Today Show on Tuesday morning.

Co-host Lisa Wilkinson and his substitute Sylvia Jeffreys referenced his absence on the show, with Lisa claiming he was off doing “a 60 Minutes tidy up”.

“He had a couple of loose ends on a story he’s finishing,” she explained.

Karl and Cassandra, who have kids' Jackson, 16, Ava, 11, and 10-year-old River together, met at a Melrose Place party in the '90s, while Karl was working with Nine and Cassandra was with ABC.

Meanwhile, twelve years after reportedly falling in love on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith, Angelina announced overnight that she has filed for divorce from Brad.

According to court documents, the actress, 41, separated from the actor on September 15. And now Brad is breaking his silence, admitting he's devastated about it.

"I am very saddened by this," the star says in a statement, "but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids.

"I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

In documents filed to the court, Angelina is asking for joint legal custody of their six children - Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight - but is seeking sole physical custody. Angelina has stated in court papers that she is happy to allow visitation rights.

According to TMZ.com, Angelina made the shock decision after growing "extremely upset" with how Brad was parenting their children, with a source adding that "she was extremely upset with his methods," and 'fed up' with his alleged use of 'weed and possibly alcohol' mixed with his 'anger problem.'
