Report: Karl Stefanovic's 'midlife crisis' and partying to blame for marriage split

As rumours continue to swirl that Karl Stefanovic has split from his wife of 21 years, new reports suggest his love of a good time was to blame for the marriage ending.

According to New Idea Karl and wife Cassandra's relationship hit breaking point at the Logie Awards earlier this year.

"They had a big fight at the Logies because she couldn't find him because he was off getting drunk," an insider told the magazine.

The source added that while fans have been surprised by the news, the news didn't shock those at Channel Nine.

"No-one at Nine was surprised when they heard they had split," the insider said.

"He had been fed-up with being married to her. She was constantly fed-up and nagging him because he was... getting trashed all the time."

The publication also reports that Today Show bosses are worried about how the scandal will affect the program's ratings.

Sources close to the show told New Idea that higher management have silenced staff talking about Karl's home situation in a bid to stop "embarrassing rumours" circulating about his "midlife crisis."

Today colleague and future sister-in-law Sylvia Jeffreys, who is engaged to Karl's brother and fellow Nine journalist Pete, has allegedly stepped in to beg Karl to end his partying ways and fight for his marriage.

New Idea adds that Sylvia and Pete, who announced their engagement in July, are hoping Karl and Cassandra will reconcile, and they're doing "everything they can to help him fix his marriage."
