EXCLUSIVE: Megan Gale slams 'awful' diva reports

She's been privy to her fair share of diva rumours, but Megan Gale isn't about to let a few titbits of gossip get to her.

Speaking to Be from the set of her new campaign with American Express, the 41-year-old agrees that there have been some ridiculous reports written about her over the years.

For her, the most hilarious, yet hurtful one was when she worked on the Project Runway TV series back in 2011.

“Oh God there’s been lots,” she laughs in the clip above. “One that was kinda hilarious but awful was…that I was working on the Project Runway TV show and I had requested that nobody make eye contact with me and everyone had to walk behind me.

“And that I had to have special food trucked in and had refused to eat with anyone else. That was pretty gnarly.

Wow. We don't remember reading that one!

“Knowing that I’m just the opposite of that I was just astounded," she says. "I was like, ‘Have they got the wrong girl?’ I didn’t know.

“I think that what was hard at the time is that you didn’t really have social media…so I had no voice and it was just kind of out there."

Megan insists she has developed a thick skin over the years, but the thing that concerns her is the potential career damage caused by rumours.

“Some things you read and it’s just like water off a duck’s back," she says. "But some things can be really damaging to your reputation and your career and your livelihood.

“Because people can read things and think, ‘Oh, that must be true.’ And then I could lose work.

“Sometimes I think it can be a bit detrimental and that’s when I think it can be a bit unfair and dangerous.”

That thick skin would come in handy in the modeling world - something Megan hopes to pass onto the young hopefuls vying to be Australia's Next Top Model.

Megan revealed during a recent episode of the series that some people in the fashion world wouldn't work with her because she was deemed "too big" for their brand.

So we asked the mum-of-one what she'd say to those people if they came chasing to work with her years later. Turns out the star still gets her share of knock backs.

“I’m too discreet to name particular brands or companies,” she tells. “But there are still some people that won’t use me and that’s fine."

During the season premiere of the Foxtel reality show, Megan broke down in tears while encouraging one of the hopefuls to embrace her curves.

“I couldn’t work for like five or six years because everyone told me, the industry here said to me 'You’re too big’,” she said on the show.

“The thing is, you just have to really, really believe in yourself because it can happen. I’m living proof. Don’t listen to anyone. Don’t starve yourself, don’t start doing crazy things to conform … because it can happen.”

Megan signed to a local modeling agency in Perth after being scouted at her graduation, but her big break was in an Italian ad campaign for Omnitel in 2001.

But the brunette says she doesn't let her success affect those past business relationships, adding that it was a good lesson to learn early on in her career.

She explains: “I don’t think it’s like, ‘Well, look at me now, I made it’ – it’s more about just being comfortable in myself and knowing there’s some people I’m a good fit for and some that I’m not...and I’m good with that.”

“I think there’s nothing I’d say now [to them]. But it was a good lesson to learn early on and it made me so much more appreciative of the gigs that I do get and making the most of those.”
